Kim Phillips Langer - Head Coach

Hi! My name is Kim Phillips Langer and I am the Head Coach of Nova Synchro. My role as Head Coach is to assist in club development, recruit and provide support for our many coaches, coordinate diverse training opportunities, communicate with the club executive and members, promote swimmer and coach development, continue to build and promote our positive club culture and represent Nova at local and regional events.

I have been involved in the world of synchro for close to 25 years; thirteen of these as a swimmer competing at provincial, national, collegiate and international levels. This will be my 13th year coaching and I am also a Competitive Development certified coach. This year I am super excited to be working with two of our 13-15 soloists.

Synchro has always been an integral part of my life. It's a unique and fulfilling sport that teaches athletes and coaches so many life skills. I absolutely love connecting with swimmers and find the profession of coaching very rewarding. By far the best part of being a coach is watching our athletes develop as well-rounded people with strong confidence, character and a joy for continued learning. Can't wait to see where this season takes us!

Liz Scott- Club Manager, 13-15 "L" Team Coach

Hello! My name is Liz, and I am coaching one of our 13-15 teams this year. I am so excited to have the opportunity to work with such a hard-working, dedicated and fun group of young ladies. I am also our Club Manager, so if you have any questions or need caps & nose clips, I'd be happy to help!

I have been involved with synchro for over 20 years, and this will be my 14th year coaching. In the past, I have had the opportunity to coach in Dresden, Germany, and was selected as part of the coaching staff for Synchro Alberta's Provincial Teams that attended US Open, UANA Pan Ams, and SYNC. I have a Kinesiology degree and am a Certified Personal Trainer with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology. I am also a Competition - Development certified coach. Coaching is my passion, and I believe that working hard can be fun.

I am excited for another great season with Nova Synchro!

Becky Thera- 16-20 Team Coach

My name is Becky Thera and I am so excited to coach the 16-20 team with Nova this year! This is a hard-working, dedicated group of athletes who I really look forward to getting to know throughout the season! I believe we will have a lot of fun developing this team while building strong skills.

I am from Regina, SK, where I swam for 5 years at a Provincial and National level. I spent many years coaching various levels of athletes for Regina Synchro. This is my 11th season coaching, and my 4th season with Nova. I was previously the Technical Director and Outreach Coordinator for Synchro Saskatchewan and was recently part of the coaching staff for Synchro Alberta’s Provincial Teams, attending SYNC in Toronto this past summer. I completed my Masters of Fine Arts at the U of A in the spring of 2018. Alongside coaching, I am a practicing artist working with drawing, embroidery, video and choreography.

I truly love synchro and coaching, and I can’t wait to share that passion with a new group of athletes this season!

Samara Hipkin- 13-15 "S" Team Coach

Hi there, My name is Samara but I generally go by Sam. A bit about me: I have been involved with synchro for about 19 years now, my first 6 years as an athlete were spent with Nova, and I continued to swim with the Auroras for the next 8 years of my life, as well as coach at varying levels from rec to national stream for the past 10 years. Once my sister (Coach Meg) and I retired from swimming at the end of 2014 we began pursuing the entrepreneurial life via formulating our own natural skin care line, which we now sell online. I am also in the midst of pursuing my master herbalist certificate and am a certified Essentrics and Garuda instructor.

I am incredibly excited to work with my 13-15 'Girl Power' team this season, and to continue to help them on their paths into incredible athletes and young women!

Meaghan Hipkin- 13-15 "M" Team Coach

Hello everybody! My name is Meaghan, although most people know me as Meg. This is my second season coaching competitively for Nova and I am incredibly excited to be back! As far as my background in this wonderful sport, I have been involved in synchro for the last 18 years, both as an athlete and a coach, the first 7 of those were spent as an athlete with Nova. I have been coaching in some capacity over the last 10 years and throughout that span of time I have coached virtually every level including pre-comp, recreational, provincial stream and national level athletes.

I love to coach and to witness athletes grow and achieve, whether it be learning how to do a back layout position or making a provincial or national team, I will do whatever I can to help them succeed. Synchro has always been my passion, my happy place and a second home where I could run to to find peace, solitude and solace when I needed it in my life- and it is an absolute joy for me to be able to pass that along to the next generation of mermaids! I cannot wait to see how this season unfolds!
