Kim Phillips Langer - Head Coach, 13-15 'K' Team Coach

Hi! My name is Kim Phillips Langer and I am the Head Coach of Nova Synchro. My role as Head Coach is to assist in club development, recruit and provide support for our many coaches, coordinate diverse training opportunities, communicate with the club Executive and members, promote swimmer and coach development and to represent Nova at local and regional events.

I have been involved in synchro for over 20 years; thirteen of these as a swimmer competing at local, national and international levels. This will be my 10th year coaching and I am a certified Competition Development Coach. I am working with our 13-15 K team this year and can't wait to get started on the upcoming season!

Synchro has always been an integral part of my life. It's a unique and fulfilling sport that teaches athletes and coaches many life skills. I find coaching to be very rewarding and love connecting with the swimmers. Watching them develop as athletes and people of character is one of the best rewards.

I have been involved with synchro for 20 years, and this will be my 12th year coaching. In the past, I have had the opportunity to coach in Dresden, Germany, and was selected as part of the coaching staff for Synchro Alberta's Provincial Teams that attended US Open, UANA Pan Ams, and SYNC.

I have a Kinesiology degree and am a Certified Personal Trainer with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology. I am also a Competition - Development certified coach. Coaching is my passion, and I believe that working hard can be fun.

I am excited for another great season with Nova Synchro!

Samara Hipkin - 11-12 'S' Team Coach

Hi there, My name is Samara but I generally go by Sam. A bit about me: I have been involved with synchro for about 17 years now, my first 6 years as an athlete were spent with Nova, and I continued to swim with the Auroras for the next 8 years of my life, as well as coach at varying levels from rec to national stream for the past 8 or 9 years. Once my sister and I retired from swimming at the end of 2014 we began pursuing the entrepreneurial life via formulating  our own natural skin care line which we now sell online and at farmers markets. We are also in the midst of pursuing our master herbalist certificates and at the beginning of certifying as Essentrics instructors and eventually we intend to certify as Yoga instructors as well!

I am incredibly excited to work with the 11-12s this year and can't wait to see what this season brings for my first year coaching with Nova

Laura Mumme - Extra Routine Coach

Hello everyone, my name is Laura Mumme and I am one of the extra routine coaches for the 2016/2017 season. I have been coaching with Nova for 13 years and was a former swimmer with Nova for 6 years. I recently became a Level 3 judge and am now able to judge all swimmers in Canada.

Synchronized swimming has been my passion for as long as I can remember. I currently swim with the Edmonton Aquamasters and will be competing at the US Masters Nationals competition in Arizona on October 19th-23, 2016. This just goes to show synchro really is a Sport for Life! Outside of synchro, I am a Knowledge Mobilization Consultant at the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital and just finished my first year of a Masters degree in the Health Leadership program at Royal Roads University.

As any of my past swimmers can attest to, I encourage stepping out of the “comfort zone”, creating challenging routines, and building confidence and competence to achieve goals. I look forward to another great season and contributing to the growth and development of these athletes.
