The Swim-a-thon takes place in mid October every year and is an important fundraising activity of Nova Synchro. Athletes swim continuously for two hours (re-hydration and bathroom breaks as needed). They are asked to obtain pledges prior to the event, either as a lump sum or per lap, completed in the two-hour time period. The Swim-a-thon is an integral part of the club's training program and all competitive swimmers are expected to participate.
Nova Synchro participates in a casino every two years. Nova Synchro is dependent on this casino financially, and casino revenues help keep the annual fee accessible to families. Each swimmer registered in the previous and current year must supply a worker 18 years or older to volunteer at this fundraiser.
Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved with Nova Synchro in as many ways as possible to maintain a supportive organization for all swimmers. Nova Synchro Club is successful thanks to the effort and hours generously committed by many volunteers. There are a variety of jobs that require different levels of commitment, but everyone is expected to donate time. Parents can volunteer to serve on the Executive, filling such positions as Treasurer, Wardrobe Coordinator, or Meet Manager.
Opportunities for volunteering also arise at events during the year, from working a casino to timing swimmers at the Swim-a-thon, working at local meets hosted by Nova or chaperoning out-of-town meets. Appendix D provides a complete list of possible ways you can contribute to your swimmer's experience. A deposit ensures equitable participation by all members.
If you're interested in being a part of this dynamic group please contact president@novasynchro.org.
Nova Handbook for Parents and Swimmers - The Club Handbook is the complete repository of Club Policy, Rules and Information. The Appendices include the Nova Synchro Swim Club Objects. Members are responsible for familiarizing themselves with the contents of Club Handbook upon registration.
Nova Bylaws - The purpose of these bylaws is to conform to the provisions of the Societies Act, R.S.A. 2000, c. S-14 and to set out how the Club provides leadership in developing and organizing an artistic swim club in Alberta, known as Nova Synchro Club.
